Why do I calculate the SEED CONTROL FACTOR?
What you are doing here is simply finding out what effects the PS you are using is having on the sample on which you are trying to determine the BOD5
How to calculate the SEED CONTROL FACTOR:
Example: Assume you want to determine the SCF of a 25 ml sample of PolySeed
Initial DO 8.9
Final DO 4.4
Total Depletion 4.5 mg/l
The BOD of PolySeed is 4.5 x (300/25) = 54
The Seed Control Factor assuming you use 4 mLs of PolySeed solution added to a 300 ml bottle is
54 x (4/300) = 0.72
